Question

How do you help people understand the revolutionary technology created to service satellites?

Answer

Design immersive experiences that allow people to step into space on Earth.

As the EU strengthens its position as a global space power, Tipik is ensuring that the revolutionary work happening in orbit is understood and appreciated here on Earth. At the heart of this effort is EROSS SC, an EU-funded project driving the future of in-space operations and services (ISOS) — and Tipik is making sure its impact reaches far beyond the scientific community.

Bringing space to Earth

As the project’s communication leader, Tipik has crafted a multi-faceted outreach strategy to make EROSS SC’s pioneering technology both engaging and understandable. Instead of merely describing the science, Tipik has designed tools that immerse audiences in the future of space servicing, allowing them to experience first-hand how space operations are run.

To achieve this, Tipik developed an ambitious and innovative communication kit, including:

  • A high-definition 3D animated video that offers a detailed, dynamic look at how robotic servicing of satellites works, with a particular focus on the mission’s key component – the robotic arm
  • An Augmented Reality (AR) demo, enabling users to visualise satellite servicing operations within their own physical surroundings, making complex space technologies tangible and interactive.
  • A Virtual Reality (VR) experience, allowing users to step into the shoes of an on-orbit technician. Using a Meta Quest headset, participants can carry out simulated maintenance tasks, guiding the robotic arm through real-time servicing operations.

Beyond these immersive experiences, Tipik also developed and manages the EROSS SC project’s website and LinkedIn presence, ensuring that key milestones, breakthroughs and insights reach the widest possible audience.

Designed for maximum impact at live events, these cutting-edge tools have already featured at IAC24 in Milan and the European Space Conference in Brussels, with many more high-profile showcases to come. The AR and VR applications not only provide an accurate representation of the technology but also ensure an intuitive and engaging experience, bridging the gap between space engineering and public understanding. Beyond the cutting edge experience, Tipik also offers a sustainable solution getting rid of transportation costs, cumbersome booths and paves the way to the future of exhibition and events.

Shaping the future of satellite servicing

With thousands of satellites orbiting our planet, facilitating everything from communication and navigation to climate monitoring, the need for sustainable satellite servicing has never been greater. Like vehicles on Earth, satellites require maintenance, refuelling, and eventual decommissioning, making on-orbit servicing a crucial pillar of Europe’s space strategy.

EROSS SC is addressing this challenge head-on. With a €26 million budget and 17 partners, led by Thales Alenia Space France, the project is developing autonomous space vehicles capable of servicing satellites in low-Earth orbit. But translating such technical innovation into a compelling and accessible narrative is where Tipik’s expertise comes into play.

With this powerful suite of communication tools, Tipik is transforming how Europe’s leading space innovations are perceived and understood – bringing cutting-edge space technology down to Earth, where its significance truly resonates.
